| The Great Keeper of the Garden! |
Right now the great keeper of the garden, otherwise known as Daddy, is cultivating garlic, onions, pea pods and one artichoke. We planted five fifty foot rows of onions and ten artichokes before the first big rain of winter, and lost all but one row and one artichoke to the huge amount of water dumped upon the land. Daddy and Mother Dearest (with help from several of their children) discovered, rescued, transplanted and re-transplanted the surviving onions into their own row. Mother Dearest sung to the bitty onions as they were being gently tucked into their bed, which I know has inspired them to grow!

Rock-a-bye Onions
(sung to the tune of rock-a-bye baby)
Rock-a-bye onions, into the ground,
When you grow up, you will be round,
Then we will put you into our stew.
Rock-a-bye onions-We sure love you!

Your mother is quite the lyricist! I seem to recall a few joint compositions from our early years; one about Korea--because we were so BORED driving home from Yuba City on July 4th that we started reading the labels in our clothing. The other was a reverent number about flushing bugs down the sink, aptly titled, "Burial at Sea for the Bugs." I have found this second one to easily be tweaked for flushing dead pet fish down the toilet as well.
