Garden Update

The onions and garlic that were once just sprouts are now flourishing and growing,
tucked in under a layer of hay.
Three rows of potatoes were planted yesterday and as of today
have also been tucked into their bed to grow.
Daddy has also planted a row of zucchini.
Many exclamations were made as baby zucchini plants poked their heads
out of the ground to get their first sight of the warm sun.

Tragically, all of the peas were eaten by the grazing cows.
Apparently cows like pea pods as much as I do. Whodathunk???

Mother Dearest and Daddy are also nurturing tiny tomato plants in the kitchen,
patiently waiting for the weather to warm and the tomatoes to grow stronger.
Then they too will take their place in the garden.

garlic and onions and the single living artichoke!

potatoes all tucked in

A bit of a morsel to chew on as we patiently await the real food to grow...
borrowed from The Daily Spud
(who found it in an anthology of Irish Potato poems, click on the name to link to the article) :

We praise all the flowers that we fancy
Sip the nectar of fruit ere they're peeled,
Ignoring the common old tater
When, in fact, he's King of the Field.
Let us show the old boy we esteem him,
Sort of dig him up out of the mud;
Let us show him he shares our affections
And crown him with glory—Kind Spud
